Beach Trip with a Toddler

Bobby, Bradley, and I went to Destin, Fl in the beginning of August. It was so much fun, but at times it was pretty hard. Bradley is a very active toddler who loves to push boundaries and test our nerves.

The first day we were so prepared, probably over prepared. I packed the cooler of food and drinks, brought the beach toy bag, and my bag for towels and misc items. I was banking on Bradley napping on the beach, but he was too aware of everything and everyone. We decided it was best to go up for nap time. This was when we read and napped as well.

I definitely recommend renting chairs and an umbrella if you have that option. We stayed in a condo right on the beach that had beach access, two pools, and a tiki bar. They had a beach chair service that would set up the chairs and umbrella in the morning. This was perfect since we are out by 9:00 am. Best thing we did.

After the first day we were able to really downsize what we brought which was just a toy bag and towel bag. The best snacks we brought to the beach were his fruit and veggie pouches because they were the easiest thing to keep from getting sandy. Bradley likes the Happy Tot pouches. Remember to have plenty of water for everyone to stay hydrated along with sunscreen.

We had a lot of meals in the condo whether we cooked it or did take out, but we did go out a few times. Bradley did great when we went for breakfast, but dinner was a little harder. One night he had his first full-on public tantrum. We don't even know what triggered it. I took him out front of the restaurant where he kept trying to get out of my arms, so I laid him on the ground letting him kick and scream. I leaned on a post watching to make sure he was safe. I got some judgemental looks, but mostly smiles. One mom came up to me and said "you are doing great, you're a great mom" and she got us napkins to clean up. Her family then came over and was talking and playing with Bradley which calmed him down. It was amazing. Her kind words and sweet family made it all better. She made me want to be a better person because her simple efforts and words made a huge positive impact.

I wanted to share some must-haves when traveling. His sound machine, monitor set, some favorite toys, blankie, and plenty pacifiers are a must. I also brought 2 bottles, a little fork, plenty of baby snacks, and snack holder.

Going to the beach with kids can be hard, but it's so worth it. Remember these moments are precious and enjoy watching experiences through their eyes. Bradley loved the water and wanted to play in the sand all day. Let the kids be kids.
