Sunscreen, Swimsuits & Sippy Cups: Our Trip to St. George Island

family beach trip

If you’re looking for a peaceful beach that’s perfect for families—without the chaos of Seaside, Destin, or Daytona—St. George Island is a hidden gem. We rented a house through Airbnb and loved having our own private stretch of beach. No crowds. No one is plopping a chair right next to ours. Just quiet, coastal beauty and direct beach access from the back porch. It felt both luxurious and low-key—exactly what we needed.

While there aren’t a ton of food options on St. George Island, the spots that are there are delicious. Some of our favorites: Paddy’s Raw Bar, Webber’s Little Donut Shop, Island Espresso, and Blue Parrot. We also found tons of beautiful shells and sand dollars, which made for the sweetest evening adventures with the kids.

After attending a friend’s wedding, we drove through the night to get there. (Wouldn’t recommend, haha.) The first few hours were rough, but we made it. Both kids traveled in their pajamas with their blankets, and I brought along our portable bottle warmer to keep Livy’s milk ready. Bobby and I powered through with energy drinks and arrived around 4 a.m. Poor Bradley was so confused—he thought the beach house looked “weird” and wanted to leave, haha. We all crashed pretty quickly after that. Bradley snuggled with Bobby, and Olivia ended up in bed with me—even though I packed her pack and play (which came in handy for naps). We woke up to the beautiful views of St. George Island.

Now onto the packing list. First and foremost, pack the grandparents (haha). We also had my sister with us. While we love family time with just the four of us, having extra hands truly makes everything smoother—and more memorable. Here’s what we packed that made a big difference:

Food/Favorite Snacks

Baby Bjorn Bouncer (for in the house and the beach)

Baby/Toddler Lifejackets

Beach Towels for everyone

Sunscreen and Aloe

Plastic shower curtain (for small pool for baby)

Baby carrier since I didn't bring a stroller

All in all, it was such a great trip and a hidden gem of a beach spot. While Destin will probably always be my favorite, St. George Island is a close second. A few friends who’ve visited said they’re already planning to go back—and I totally get why. If you have any questions or need recommendations, feel free to shoot me an email or send me a DM. I’m happy to help!
