DIY Fourth of July Tank Top

I have seen so many cute Fourth of July outfits and graphic tees this year, but some of them have been a little pricey. After seeing a few tops I loved that were $40 or more, I decided to make my own instead!

I headed to Hobby Lobby and picked up everything I needed for this simple DIY project.

What I Bought

• American Apparel Tank Top – $13

• Red ribbon – $3

• White lace ribbon – $3

• Blue fabric – $2

• Fabric glue – $6

My total came to around $27, which is much less than some of the patriotic tops I had been eyeing online.

I originally planned to use a white tank top, but when I found this one, I thought it would work even better. The color really makes the white lace pop and gives it a unique vintage feel.

How to Make It

The best part about this project is how simple it is. It doesn't take long to put together, and you still have plenty of time to make one before the Fourth of July.

You can grab a basic tank from a craft store, Walmart, or Amazon. Then choose your favorite red and white ribbons along with a blue fabric that fits your style.

Step 1: Wash Your Tank

I recommend washing your shirt before starting the project. This helps prevent any shrinking after you've attached the fabric and ribbon.

Step 2: Prep Your Materials

Cut your ribbons and blue fabric to the size you want. Before gluing anything down, lay the pieces on your shirt to get an idea of the placement and design.

Step 3: Glue Everything in Place

Pour a small amount of fabric glue onto a paper plate and use a paintbrush to apply it to the shirt. Carefully place the blue fabric and ribbons where you want them, pressing them down gently.

Step 4: Let It Dry

Once all of the pieces are attached, allow the shirt to dry for 24 hours.

After it has fully dried, it can be washed. Since I washed my tank before creating it, I plan to wear it first and then wash it afterward.

Final Thoughts
