DIY Designer-Looking Foam Board Pin Board (That Looks Custom!)

I had been wanting a giant pinboard for my office, but I didn't want a traditional corkboard. In my head, I was picturing something that looked more like a custom piece of wall art with a beautiful color or pattern.
One day, I saw someone cover a foam board with fabric to create artwork, and I immediately thought... Wait! That would be perfect for sticking push pins into.
It was inexpensive, easy to make, and completely transformed my workspace. If you've been looking for a functional pin board that doesn't look like an office supply, this DIY is for you!
Supplies
4' x 8' foam insulation board (1/2-inch thick) at Lowes
I bought the 4' x 8' x ½-inch foam board and had the store cut it into a 3' x 4' piece, which was the perfect size for my pin board. Since you're paying for the entire sheet, don't leave the leftover behind! Mine also came with a 5' x 4' piece, so I brought both pieces home. Now I have extra foam board ready for another DIY project later.
Fabric of your choice
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Push pins
4 drywall screws
Optional: A hot handyman. 😉 (Highly recommended for hanging!)

Step 1: Choose Your Fabric
This is what really gives your board that designer look.
Before buying fabric, picture how the pattern will look once it's hanging on your wall. I originally planned to hang mine horizontally, but once I saw the fabric pattern, I realized it looked much better vertically. It ended up being even prettier than I imagined.
Pro tip:Â Measure your board before buying fabric and convert your measurements from feet to yards. (Learn from my mistake, I definitely had to Google that in the fabric aisle!) Be sure to buy a little extra so you have enough to wrap around the back of the board.
Step 2: Wrap the Foam Board
Lay fabric face down on a clean floor or large table. Center the foam board on top of the fabric, then pull the fabric tightly around each side and secure it to the back using hot glue. Work one side at a time, keeping the fabric smooth and wrinkle-free. Fold the corners neatly, almost like you're wrapping a present.
Step 3: Hang Your Board
One of my favorite things about this project is how easy it was to hang. Since the foam board is so lightweight, we just used four drywall screws and drilled directly through the fabric and foam board into the wall. It feels secure, sits flat against the wall, and only took a few minutes to install.
Step 4: Style It
Now for the fun part! Add photos, inspiration, calendar pages, invitations, to-do lists, fabric swatches, quotes, or anything else you want to display. Since the foam board accepts push pins like cork, it's incredibly functional yet looks much more elevated. It instantly made my office feel more organized and so much prettier.
Why I Love This DIY
Budget-friendly
Looks like custom designer decor
Lightweight and easy to hang
Fully customizable with any fabric
Doubles as wall art and organization
Sometimes the best DIYs are the simplest ones, and this has quickly become one of my favorite projects. It's one of those pieces that looks high-end but costs a fraction of what a large custom pin board would.
