Beach Trip Packing As A New Mom

Did I overpack? Yes. Will I always overpack? Yes. This is a habit that I have always struggled with.

I knew for our beach trip I couldn’t bring everything with us, so I made a list for me and Bradley. Creating a list keeps you organized and on track to make sure you don’t miss anything. You can also review it and rethink on certain items.

We were gone for 5 days and 4 nights. We had an outfit for both travel days, bathing suits, dressy casual outfits, comfy outfits, pjs, and other items.

I made sure that he had plenty of outfit changes and burp cloths because he likes to surprise us with spit up after meals.

Being able to breastfeed on the beach was so convenient. Hungry? Just pop the boob out for him, haha. No extra items to bring down for the beach for that.

I did pack my pump and bottles. I would pump while getting ready for dinner and then bring the bottles for dinner in case he got hungry (which he did). I would try to feed him and put him down for a nap before getting him ready for dinner.

Things that were great:

  • I packed plenty of diapers, swim diapers, wipes.

  • Baby meds, thermometer, and nail clipper set

  • Inflatable baby float

  • Bath seat- used in bath and at beach

  • Baby sunscreen

  • Baby sunglasses and hat

  • Pack and play with a sheet

  • Plenty of bathing suits (changed after lunch)

  • Baby tent

  • Baby Bjorn bouncer

  • A few teether and baby toys

Things brought, but not used or necessary:

  • Floor play-mat

  • Baby towels/ wash cloths

  • Sound machine- could have used IPad or Phone

Things I wish I would have brought:

  • Diaper/butt cream

  • Bath cup

Overall this was such a fun and successful first beach trip with baby boy. He loved the beach, especially the ocean. Bradley fought sleep most of the days unless he was in the water. He did not want to miss out on anything. He would instantly fall asleep in his float making him the most relaxed baby in the world.

For me, I always like being over-prepared and over-packed. This is just something that keeps my stress levels at ease. I would rather have something and not use it than to not have something and need it. Everyone is different, so just pack what makes you feel good and prepared.

At the end of the day, if you forget something it is not the end of the world and you make it work. We made the best memories and I can’t wait for many more.
