Getting Off Anxiety Meds for Pregnancy

I take Lexapro for anxiety and depression. Since we were trying for baby number two, I decided to get off my meds.

When I was pregnant with Bradley I decided to get off of them and I did fine. It was probably because I was distracted with hormones and sickness all day. I wanted to be as natural as possible for my pregnancy. My Dr. assured me that I would be fine either way and that if I needed to talk with her throughout I could.

When I got to third trimester, I started feeling off and decided I should probably talk with my Dr. She said that I would be fine getting back on them and it was actually preferred to start getting on them due to postpartum coming up.

When getting on and off meds, they wean you. So, since I take 15 mg, I went two weeks taking 10 mg to two weeks taking 5 mg and then off. I also do that same pattern when getting back on (5 to 10 to 15).

I am so glad I got back on them toward the end of my third trimester because I did suffer minor postpartum depression, but I think it could have been a lot worse if I wasn't on my meds.

Fast forward to today... I got off the meds before conceiving rather than becoming pregnant and getting off. Getting off my meds this time was harder because I didn't have all the hormones I did the first time. This time I went through days of not feeling myself and my head feeling funky. I am fine now since my body has adjusted. I will keep y'all updated on how the rest of the pregnancy goes.

Much love,

E
