Learning Each Other's Love Language

As silly as some people may find this, knowing the 5 love languages is actually helpful in your relationship. Yes, it is good to know your love language, but it is more important to know your partner's. Understanding the 5 love languages will help your partnership become stronger.

You can start by taking the quiz below.

Bobby's Results

  • Quality Time 26%

After we took the quiz, we realized we do a lot of what we want our person to do instead of what the other actually needs to feel love and appreciated. I am a huge giver of acts of service because that is what I need in order to feel the love whereas Bobby would rather spend time with me or hold my hand.

You can see we both have quality time as our #1 love language. With our busy lives and schedules, it is the best way for us to reconnect and show each other how much we care.

The other week we had an empty, no-plan weekend, so we decided to spend it together by playing golf and relaxing. It is important that you are both intentional in making the other feel important. For Bobby, I try to remember to do things that make him feel loved and appreciated. That can be hugging on him, making plans to spend time with him, or trying to help him out during a stressful workweek. I am not saying this made our relationship perfect, but it helps us understand each other a bit better.

You have to remember you are in a partnership, you are a team, and anything that can help nurture that or help you both grow will only benefit the relationship. I would definitely recommend this fun activity in finding out your love language and talking about it. Talk about what you have done, what works, what doesn't work, and how you both can improve. If you want to make it even more relaxed and fun, make it a date night. Order a pizza, get some wine, and get to love learning.
