Quick Austin, Tx Road Trip
We went to Austin, Texas for the first time over the week of Thanksgiving for a family wedding.
I am not flying at the moment while being pregnant for personal reasons, so we decided to drive. On the way there we split it up, which I highly recommend if you are driving a far distance (especially while pregnant). We drove halfway, stayed in a hotel, and then the next day drove the rest of the way.
We left in the late morning and got to Austin in the evening. Staying at the Austin Marriott Downtown (304 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78701) for the night was nice because we were able to walk to dinner to stretch our legs and get the blood pumping. For dinner, we ate at Gloria’s Latin Cuisine, which was a cool atmosphere and really fast service. The food was good, Bobby said his meal was great. I can’t really be a good food critic at the moment since my taste and smell is off from the pregnancy.
The next day was Thanksgiving when the rest of our family was flying in so we went downstairs to grab breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Loaf + Vine (6/10), and had a nice little walk to Starbucks for mommas coffee.
We met up with the family at Caroline for drinks and appetizers while waiting for our Airbnb to open up. I would recommend Caroline for the food, we all enjoyed it and everyone that got drinks said they were good. They also have a really neat rooftop area for a hangout. 7/10.
After we had a pre-made Thanksgiving dinner from the local grocery store, we watched some Selling Sunset to relax. Later on, half of the house took naps and the others met up with the extended family at P6 which is a rooftop bar facing the river in The Line hotel. I had a yummy mocktail and we enjoyed having time to catch up.
On Black Friday, we went to Congress street for some fresh Tecovas and stopped in Allen’s. That street is so cute and has so many shops and restaurants. For lunch, we went to Torchy's Tacos which was delicious. I had the beef fajita taco along with chips and queso and it was so yummy. Baby approved. 8/10.
We then drove about 30 minutes to check out the Oasis because Bobby's mom and dad wanted to show us their old stomping grounds. It was a very neat area and had a great view of Lake Travis. They all got a margarita and I got a virgin pina colada while we hung out for a bit.
That evening we went to the family "Welcome Dinner" at Arlo Grey in The Line hotel. It was rented out and the food was AMAZING. It was a really neat restaurant and we had so much fun. All the workers were so nice. 10/10.
On our last day in Austin, we started with Bird Bird Biscuit. Since I can't eat chicken, I had their biscuit and gravy which was good, 7/10. The others had chicken biscuits that were huge and said they were tasty.
We then went to Green Light to catch some football. At halftime, we decided to check out
Reigny street, which was the cutest bar/restaurant street ever. We only had a couple of hours to check out some of the bars. The bars we stopped at were The Container Bar, The Parlor Room, Augustine, and Unbarlievable. They were all so unique and fun. Momma got hungry, so I grabbed some donuts from Little Lucy's Mini Donuts... they were heavenly.
After our mini bar hop, we got ready for the wedding. The wedding took place at Barr Mansion. It was a beautiful venue. They planned on it being an outdoor ceremony, but it rained all day, so they went with plan B, inside. The ceremony was still stunning indoors.
On Sunday, Bobby and I woke up at 4:30 am and headed back to Georgia. We did the straight 13-hour drive and IT WAS ROUGH. He was such a trooper and drove the whole way. It was such a great trip it made the long travel worth it.
Life is short, take the trip.
